Contentment

Things are good.  Really good.   Choices that I’ve made recently are working out well.  My house is now MY house!  I am no longer sharing it with anyone except M and that is just the way I like it!  I’ve bought some fantastic new furniture and I’m loving being in my warm, modern environment.  It’s going to sting a little more on rent day but… for now it is worth it.

I am enjoying my studies.  I completed my first assignment today, five days ahead of schedule!  It comprised of two 1,000 word essays and a 500 word summary essay which we are required to post online, followed by commenting on two other students summaries.  So far I am the only person who has done this!  The reason why it is working so much better this time round is not just because I have an extra hour in the day to study, but because the topics are now so relevant.   I even turned down two social engagements to study over the weekend – dedication!

In less than two weeks the office will close for 2.5 weeks holiday!  Speaking of the office, my colleague and I had a huge argument last week.  We both shouted at each other and then she refused to talk to me.  As we sit right next to each other and were the only ones there, it was awkward to say the least.  However she came back after lunch ready to talk and we sat down and both gave our sides calmly and rationally, and agreed on what we thought would resolve the issue.  I felt like such a grown up and I tell you what, if everyone could resolve issues this way, workplaces would be much happier!!!

The Pioneer Woman has a tutorial on photoshop a la instagram which I downloaded to my photoshop (I am such a newbie at these things but I managed to do it, woo!) and I have been playing around with it tonight:

The original (which has actually already been photoshopped – my standard contrast) – M at her end of year drama production.

And photoshopped in vintage!  Can’t wait to create beautiful pics in the future now I have this.  Thanks, TPW!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Life is good!

Long time no write… but I’m pleased to report… happiness!  I had been a bit low for a while: winter, work, a less-than-awesome living situation.  So I did what I do best and booked myself an overseas trip!  My daughter and I spent an idyllic week in the beautiful Vanuatu.  We had an amazing time – met some great people and created some wonderful memories.  While there, I decided I needed to make changes at home.  I knew that I wanted to continue working on my degree, but I also knew I did NOT want to spend every waking moment either working or studying again.  I knew that my living arrangement had to end despite the money it was bringing in.

So I came home and put my plan into action.  I applied for a new programme of study that is going to be more applicable to where my career is heading, and is going to be easier to achieve – a Bachelor of Education (Adult Education).

I then asked my bosses if I could reduce my work hours by one hour per day.  I outlined my reasons (more time to study, to be home for my daughter after school) and promised to be honest about my workload if I found work was piling up.  And they said yes!  I’m still working fulltime, 35 hours a week, as I start work at 8am.  But I finish at 3.30pm, and because I live a 3-minute bike ride from work, I’m practically home at 3.30pm – so I feel like I work part-time!  And my daughter is no longer unsupervised at home for an hour after school which is important now she’s in her terrible teens!

I also gave my flatmate notice to move out, a situation I had been unhappy with for a while, and I don’t believe she was loving it either – but was too comfortable to leave.  I think my decision was actually good for the both of us.

Both of the decisions I made mean less income, but sometimes I think happiness is more important than money.  I heard somewhere recently that “everyone is entitled to the persuit of happiness”… and I wholeheartedly agree.

It’s funny how…

…you can go from one day being perfectly happy with life and work and everything else, to the next completely UNhappy with everything?

And when I say ‘funny’, I mean ‘annoying’…

Great weekend!

Pukeko’s :)

Had a very relaxing weekend.  Saturday, didn’t sleep in very late but stayed in bed till lunchtime, relaxing and catching up on blogs!  Finally got up and had a lovely bath and shaved my wintery hairy legs, did my toenail polish, and tinted my eyebrows.  Sometimes I let those things go and it feels so much better to have it all done!  Got dressed and headed into the city and M and I went for a bagel and I got my nails done.  Then we drove to my cousins place where we spent a great night with three of my cousins in our pjs, cooking and drinking wine and watching movies camped out in the lounge together!

Today we had a relaxing morning before my cousins mother and father came over from Rotorua for lunch with us, and then we all went for a big walk.

Tired now and sipping a glass of red wine, about to watch the Secret Millionnaire and then bed.

M and I are getting up at 6.30am tomorrow for a run!

New gym classes

I’ve started going to classes at the gym.  I joined the gym earlier this year and mostly went to spin classes.  I got a bit bored of that so switched to using the cardio machines.  I soon got bored of that too so it was easy to not attend for a few weeks when I got sick.

Fortunately, my workmate has joined the same gym and started attending classes with a friend of hers.  So this week, I finally joined them!

Monday: Pump.

Tuesday: Pilates.

Wednesday: Pump.

Thursday: Yoga.

Pump I really like as I am dying to build up my upper body muscle and tone my arms, but with one bad knee the lunges and squats are painful :(   Pilates I LOVED!  Though I have a feeling it was a pretty low-key class and not always that relaxing!  Yoga was ok… I found it quite hard though I’m sure with less body weight it wouldn’t be as hard.  The relaxation at the end was spoiled by the flourescent light and noise of the squash room nextdoor.

All in all I’m really happy going to different classes and having people to go with!  But I really need to get more cardio in or this weight is never going to shift :(

I’ve cut my alcohol consumption right down, only one or two half glasses of red wine per week night, and only one or two more on the weekends.  I’ve made a new rule for myself not to drink around M anymore and I’m more than happy about it.  It’s better for my health AND my place as a mother.

Foodwise I’ve been eating more fruit and cooking healthy dinners more lately… but my weight just stays the same seemingly no matter what I do. LOUD SIGH.

My daughter experiences death…

A boy in my daughters class passed away sadly last weekend.

Im so proud of my amazing daughter.

Sick :-(

Well I know now why I’ve been so tired lately… recently I found a lump in my breast and had a bit of a cancer scare.  A mammogram and ultrasound ruled that it was a harmless cyst, and about half of it was syringed out (they didn’t take it all in case it changed the shape of my breast).

Within a week it had completely refilled (apparently this only happens in some cases… just my luck it was in mine), which was annoying but at least I knew it was nothing sinister.  However over the past weekend it started to get painful and I realised, to my horror, that the lump was now about the size of a tennis ball!

A trip to the doctor yesterday yeilded antibiotics and another referral to the breast screening clinic, where hopefully it will get sorted out for good this time.  I want the whole thing drained!

So I’m off work, in bed and feeling quite miserable :-(

Lots of travel this week!

This week I have a lot of travel to do.  I’m flying to the Earthquake City of Christchurch in the morning – a very chilly 6.30am to be exact!  Thismorning there was a frost here, which just happened to be the same night I forgot to leave my electric blanket on!  I usually leave it on low so it just takes the chill off, but I woke up in the middle of the night freezing!  However, it’s going to be below 0 degrees in Chch in the morning!

I’ll have breakfast at the airport when I arrive at 8.30am and then spend the morning with a client, and then take her for lunch.  In the afternoon I’ll jump on another plane and come up to Wellington.  I’m looking forward to spending the afternoon in the capital city, it’s such a beautiful city and if the weather is nice I’ll go for a big walk around Oriental Parade and find somewhere funky to go for dinner.  I’ll spend the night in a hotel and see a client for a couple of hours in the morning, get some lunch, and then catch a plan to Auckland.

I’ve got one client to see in the afternoon and then an evening in the city in a hotel.  I’ve got friends and family in Auckland, the city of my birth, but whether I see anyone or not depends on how much energy I have left!  But a wander around the viaduct would be good.  I have three clients to see the next day before I fly home that evening.  I’ve got a couple of babysitters lined up to watch M so I don’t have to worry about her, but it’s still a pretty hectic schedule!

I haven’t gone anywhere…

I’ve been here the whole time.  I just haven’t felt like blogging?  I log in all the time to look at blogs on my blogroll but never have much to say about my 0wn life!  Maybe I should just start writing and see what comes out…

V.quiet Weekend!

Just hung about at home mostly.  Did get a new stash of cool clothes from the 2nd hand shop and go to the gym, but that’s about it.  Hmmmm… where are you excitement?!

Not to worry, I have a couple of great weekends coming up.

Actually looking forward to going to work tomorrow as we have started recruiting for the Administrator, and my name and email is on the job ad so I’ll be considering all applications and contacting people for interviews.  I’ll be co-interviewing with my boss.  I’m both excited and nervous about the change in role, I still feel like I haven’t been there very long (six months) and things have progressed very fast in that time, but my bosses have full confidence in me and allow me to make a lot of decisions, and so far I’ve not let them down.

So, interesting times to come as they’re also recruiting for another trainer too, so our wee team is expanding.  I like change, so that’s good!
